Abstract

In order to reduce incidences of academic misconduct, schools offering the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma Programme (IBDP) are required to provide clarity on academic integrity regulations and practices in a school policy. A 2015 study, surveying students, teachers and school coordinators, captured an accurate image of current practices in IBDP schools and their effects on knowledge and understanding of academic honesty. Results imply that both students’ and teachers’ understanding of and attitudes to academic integrity are influenced by their knowledge of their school’s academic honesty policy, and that communicating academic honesty rules and practices should be more actively carried out. State schools rely more heavily on less interactive forms of communication than private schools, potentially disadvantaging their students.
