Abstract

Despite evidence shows that an inquiry approach to teaching mathematics and science is needed for productive student learning outcomes, expository teaching remains the most popular method for teaching at the K-12 level (Silverstein et al., 2009). To enhance X’s contribution to the community by producing effective mathematics and science teachers who not only are highly knowledgeable in their disciplines, but also can engage students through inquiry-based instruction, we have developed a series of unique courses through the X program at Y institution. This paper presents preliminary findings of the research on an undergraduate course aimed at improving STEM majors’ capacity for delivering inquiry-based mathematics and science lessons.
