Leadership Perceptions of Campus Programs for Refugee Students

Sat, April 29, 8:15 to 9:45am, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

This study examines how educational leaders perceive the efficacy of campus-based programs for adolescent-age refugees. Campus and district leaders establish programs for these students to grow academically through educational opportunities and become members of the school community. This study uses qualitative methods to focus on the perceptions of campus leaders on programs that prepare these students to attain campus and district goals. The results show that school leaders and program staff would benefit from better training for working with refugees and greater cultural responsiveness in these programs.
