Abstract

This paper details the development and validation of the Dispositions for Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (DCRP) scale. Fifty-two items were developed using theory related to multicultural education, critical education theory, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Items were subject to five rounds of evaluation including exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, qualitative review by experts, and quantitative reliability and validity analyses. The final scale has 19 items across three dispositional dimensions: disposition for community, disposition for praxis, and disposition for social justice. This scale is useful for teacher educators preparing teachers to work in culturally and linguistically diverse schools, as well as for teachers hoping to teach diverse populations.
