Here we draw upon the Australian government funded project Climate Change and Me where 135 children and young people worked as active researchers, artists and writers over the course of a year. The young researchers learned to engage with educational theory and methodology, and use a variety of ethnographic and art-based research methods for collecting data about climate change in their communities, including interviews, video, photography, field notes, drawings, poetry and fiction. They were not given predetermined definitions or perspectives on climate change, but were encouraged to investigate the diversity of children and young people’s awareness, attitudes and actions towards the issue. The co-researchers also worked together to analyse and curate the data for the Past Now Future exhibition, some results of which we will present in the symposium as findings for our research.
