This survey study investigated the relationships among adolescence social media engagement, adolescence personality factors and academic performance. 172 secondary school students from Hong Kong participated in this study. Path analysis was conducted to investigate the causal effects of social media behaviors and adolescence personality factors on their academic performance. The major findings of this study included: 1) Close correlations existed between students’ personality factors and social media behaviors, and their personality factors and academic performance; 2) Indirect effects of social media engagement through personality factors were found on students’ academic performance, and 3) content creating behavior on social media had negative impact on students’ academic performance.
