In response to the disproportionate rates of postsecondary attendance and the individual and societal benefits derived from participation, the current administration has called on every American to “commit” to attending at least one year of post-secondary education (Obama, 2009). In the current study, the direct effect of high school learning environment on student post-secondary enrollment was examined using the data from a High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS: 09). Meanwhile, human capital as the mediator was examined to investigate the indirect relationship between high school environment and post-secondary enrollment. Last but not the least, the gender differences of human capital on post-secondary enrollment was investigated.
