Effects of Mobile Phone Dependency on Grade Point Average

Abstract

Smartphones are used for lots of different purposes. From navigation to checking weather reports, smartphones are the 21st century Swiss knives. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between mobile phone dependency (MPD), social media use and students’ grade point average (GPA) scores at high school. A survey with a smartphone addiction scale (SAS) was administered to 118 high school students. Unlike the previous studies reviewed, the results showed no significant negative or direct relationship between MPD and GPA scores. Further research is needed to support the research hypotheses.
