Abstract

This paper discusses characteristics and perceptions of individuals engaged in the adoption of technology in social science research. The research team has previously published on barriers users commonly face in deciding to adopt and appropriately make use of technology in their research. Yet, little is known about how potential users, who may differ in their experience with qualitative and mixed methods inquiry and have varying levels of technological skills, understand their ‘readiness’ to overcome these barriers. Outcomes of this study are intended to extend our understanding of strategies which promote quality technological adoption and improve methodological practices by exploring how researchers and educators use, or do not use, research and evaluation data analysis software (REDAS) in their work.
