Utilizing longitudinal survey data of student engagement, this study extended previous studies of college student typology to the grouping of high school students and examined the changes of student types in the transition from high school to the end of the first year in college. We also investigated the correlation of high school student and college student typologies with individual students’ characteristics and institutional structural measures. Preliminary results demonstrated half of the respondents remained in the same engagement type at the end of the first year in college as they were in high schools. It also showed that multiple factors were correlated with college student types.
