This qualitative case study provided insights into the journey of a first grade teacher as she attempted to negotiate learning goals and refine her practice to facilitate whole group text-based discussions while supporting ELL students as part of a collaborative intervention. The teacher selected the area of feedback within the Dialogic Instruction Tool (DIT) (Reznitskaya, 2012) as professional development goal. The findings revealed that although she made progress in working towards her professional goals as identified by the DIT Teaching Indicators which influenced the opportunities for their students to engage in different levels of thinking (Costa, 2001). Unfortunately, the ELL students did not appear to as strongly benefit.
