This presentation will examine relevant constitutional provisions, civil rights laws and legal cases to equip educational leaders and researchers with the requisite legal framework to deepen their ability to advocate for LGBTQ students. Through an examination LGBTQ issues, this presentation will explore the relationship between various sources of legal authority and the role of law in policy implementation. This foundational skillset has broad application beyond LGBTQ issues. Moreover, this presentation will touch on politics and the need to balance competing interests, both significant issues in the everyday work of educational leaders.
