Developing a Teacher Candidate Dispositions Instrument: Lessons From the Field

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an instrument that measures the disposition of teacher candidates as specified by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). This study addresses the following questions: 1) What unique constructs emerge and align with the measured dispositions of effective teacher candidates? and 2) Can these constructs be measured with an acceptable degree of reliability and validity? In addition, this study addressed the following concerns for the local context: How can a dispositions instrument be developed and implemented across a large EPP? and How can the data from a dispositions instrument inform programs and administration at a large EPP?
