Coteaching, a model for learning to teach, places teacher candidates alongside clinical educators in classrooms. Learning occurs through shared practice, reflection, and explication of thinking. This cross-case study of six coteaching dyads examines affordances for developing adaptive practice, growth competence and collaborative expertise. It was found that opportunities for learning were provided through coteaching student teaching experiences although in different ways. Findings show variability across dyads in the amount of time spent coplanning and debriefing, in discourse patterns, and the nature of coteaching interactions. Implications are discussed.
