Although researchers have explored the creation of digital videos in teacher education, little research has considered how pre-service teachers might use these texts to imagine and negotiate their own experience and practice. Research in teacher education indicates the need to deliberately provide opportunities to negotiate complex discourses faced in current social and political environments. Grounded in New Literacies Studies and imagining as a critical practice, we explore multimedia videos pre-service teachers designed to place themselves in their future classrooms. Findings indicate how pre-service teachers used digital storytelling to set up pedagogical authority, create cohesion between their own experiences in classrooms as students and observers with their idealized notions of being a teacher and the personal struggle inherent across these experiences.
