Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how Catholic school leaders are prepared to advocate for and how they implement social justice advocacy with students and families who belong to the LGBT community. The study highlights interview data from candidates who share their experiences about learning to deconstruct heterosexual privilege in a Catholic educational leadership preparation program. Findings also highlight how they implement social justice leadership in their Catholic schools. The study contributes to the emerging literature about the need to educate school leaders to handle sensitive topics, specifically deconstructing heterosexual privilege, in order to support all students.
