Sat, April 29, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: River Level, Room 7C

Abstract

School district-university research collaborations represent one strategy to increase educators’ use of current, research-based information in decision-making to improve student achievement. However, differences in organizational structures, goals, values, and prior collaborative experiences, have made successful research partnerships challenging. In this case study, to address those challenges a mutually beneficial, research collaboration was intentionally structured between one urban university and two local districts to examine high school math achievement and college math success. One partnership successfully completed the data analysis while the other did not. This article describes and compares the structures, mechanisms, and conditions related to each outcome. It contributes to the field’s understanding of how to develop mutually beneficial research collaborations to increase use of research in educational practice.
