Assessment of Professional Master's Program Outcomes: Alumni Experiences During Study and in the Workplace

Sun, April 30, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Street Level, Stars at Night Ballroom 4

Abstract

Measuring alumni outcomes in their own words helps demonstrate how knowledge gained is used in practice, how developing master's level skills while working influences outcomes, and how program and work experiences result in empowerment for lifelong learning, and equity. The purpose of this study was to gather alumni's self-reported competencies and career outcomes, in order to interpret the perceived value of these programs, seek new ways of thinking about interactions in various environments, and to refine indirect assessment instrumentation for professional master’s degree programs. Initial results help explain previous statistical differences between programs and identify themes to provide insight on how motivations to study differ and influence outcomes, and how the interrelated experiences between work/home/school lives influence outcomes.
