On Modeling Instruction Absence With Curriculum-Based Measurement Data: Estimating Growth and Reliability With Multiphase Latent Growth Models

Mon, May 1, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: River Level, Room 6D

Abstract

We will demonstrate how to model the instruction absence by specifying a multiphase latent growth model, which share some common features with multiphase models within the multilevel modeling framework (Cudeck & Klebe, 2002). A longitudinal dataset with Curriculum Based Measure (CBM) data collected bi-weekly during an academic year is utilized in this study. In this particular dataset, the instruction absence is caused by the winter break between the two semesters. The multiphase growth model is compared with other conventional growth models to investigate the difference in model fit indices among models with and without considering instruction absence. The parameter interpretation and reliability calculation are also elaborated in the present study.
