Sun, April 30, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Street Level, Stars at Night Ballroom 4

Abstract

Researchers in this study collaborated with the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) to examine the implementation of formative assessment practice within classrooms of administrator identified effective users of formative assessment. Specifically, the purpose of our study was to examine classrooms where effective formative assessment was being regularly enacted to learn more about how teachers implement strategies and what types of support are necessary to achieve successful use. Findings revealed that formative assessment practice, even for the teachers identified by their administrators as being the leaders in formative assessment, are effectively using only a subset of identified formative assessment practice. Findings in this study provide much needed insight into areas for future teacher training, policy, and research.
