Abstract

This paper analyzes the student-level enrollment records from 21 large U.S. research universities, and contributes to a more robust understanding of timely completion of STEM doctorates by underrepresented minority (URM) students. The study also offers insights—both challenges and opportunities—for graduate schools in increasing URM STEM doctoral attainment.
