The focus of teacher evaluation reform has focused on the ways in which teachers can make a difference in terms of student learning. As the primary implementers of these reforms, the impact on principals’ work lives has been significant. This study surveyed and interviewed principals in states where Race to the Top funding has been linked to reform in teacher evaluation, among other things. Participants identified the ways in which their work lives have changed, the benefits and detriments of new legislation, and made recommendations for improvement.
