The purpose of this systematic review is to provide an overview of 44 peer-reviewed studies conducted using LENA technology. Data sources include ERIC, ProQuest, PsychInfo and Google Scholar (2006 to 2016), the LENA Research Foundation website and bibliographies of included studies. The research team collected and evaluated studies according to study purpose (exploratory, assessment, and intervention), design (case study, group design, single subject, and correlation), characteristics of participant groups (age, physiological condition, SES, and language background), statistical analyses (regression, correlation, Fishier Exact Test, and t-test) and results. Findings reveal that there are challenges and limitations associated with this technology, nevertheless there is a great potential to provide more evidence-based understandings of and interventions for early language development.
