Abstract

This conceptual analysis looks at three theoretical frameworks in regard diverse population and schooling: multicultural education, culturally responsive pedagogies, and bilingual intercultural education. The purpose is to advocate for the use of meaningful frameworks for pedagogical practice and educational research in regard the inclusion of diverse students, particularly indigenous students. Multicultural education and culturally relevant pedagogies were built under a particular historical moment in the U.S. Bilingual intercultural education is mostly used in Latin America and has served the development of educational policy focused on including indigenous students in school classrooms. This analysis evidences that further discussion is needed in order to build frameworks that are relevant to local contexts attending to self-determination right of indigenous population in regard education.
