Abstract

In this paper, we discuss the outcomes associated with a high school mentoring and tutoring program for Latino students that aims to increase their pipeline into college and STEM careers. We found the program increased students’ college aspirations and interest, college related self-efficacy, and STEM career interest. Additionally, we found the aspect of the program which was especially influential in affecting these outcomes was the guidance and information students received from their mentors, in addition to assistance with college preparation activities. The significance of these findings for programs hoping to increase Latino students access to college and STEM careers is discussed.
