Abstract

Latino males’ the daily struggles—vulnerabilities—and also the overlooked resources—funds of knowledge (FOK) and forms of capital—activated, successfully, by many young Latino males that have disrupted the momentum toward further incarceration. Regrettably, instead of focusing on examining the broader context in which violence takes place, most available scholarship treats it as an individual act. Utilizing a qualitative approach, this study addresses the following research questions: (1) what are the funds of knowledge and forms of capital from which Latino males, who have had contact with the juvenile justice system, draw on to make decisions regarding their educational and occupational goals?, and (2) how do these Latino males experience and make sense of various types of vulnerabilities?
