Teacher ideologies and awareness about language guide pedagogical decisions across all educational contexts, but are particularly important for the instruction of English language learners (ELLs). Our study used mixed methods to explore the teacher language awareness (TLA) and prevalent language ideologies of public-school educators working in dual language bilingual education programs in Utah. While substantial research has examined TLA and language ideologies independently, less is known about the relationship between the two. In our presentation we will discuss how to apply our findings to create integrated professional development that addresses classroom practices, language awareness, and language ideologies. We will also discuss implications for equitable DLBE program development and implementation for ELLs across contexts.
