This paper presents a reading of Herman Melville’s Moby Dick using Gloria Anzaldúa’s (2007) notion of borderlands and mestiza consciousness, useful for addressing social justice and multicultural education issues in the high school or university classroom. The authors address themes related to race, ableism, culture, and queerness covered in the novel.
