Understanding the Process of Transfer of Learning From Military Context to Civilian Workplace

Abstract

Traditional learning transfer models are frequently used to measure factors affecting transfer of training beyond the question of whether training works to why training works (Holton et al., 2000). However, little space has been dedicated to the process of transfer and factors associated to transfer of learning of veterans in transition from the military to civilian workforce. The author provides an understanding of the learning transfer process by which veterans are transferring the skills and knowledge learned in military training to their workplace. Results will provide a better understanding on how adult learners and scholars can work with and prepare individuals successfully transition from a military life to the workforce.
