Studies on charter schools have not validated effective teaching and increased student achievement as related to charter theory. This quantitative study used person-environment fit theory to look at differences in teacher perspectives on teaching conditions linked to effective teaching across charter and traditional public schools. Teachers are important human capital driving student learning; therefore, their perspectives on work conditions are important factors to consider in educational studies. Traditional public school teachers expressed higher rates of trust for professional freedoms, while charter school teachers expressed higher use of assessment data and greater ambition to leave their schools for other schools in the state or for administrative positions.
