Using the Researcher-Practitioner Partnership to Build Family-School Partnerships in a Rural High School

Abstract

This qualitative study highlights a current and ongoing researcher-practitioner partnership within one Midwestern rural high school. The partnership established in this school aims to use action research to build a sustainable family-school partnership program that creates “respectful alliances that value relationship building, dialogue, and sharing power as part of socially just schools” (Auerbach, 2012, p. 34). The purpose of this study is to examine the process involved in creating and maintaining the researcher-practitioner partnership within a rural community, as well as the process involved in utilizing this partnership to transform family-school relationships.
