Along with the globalization of English, the sociocultural context of learners and teachers becomes one important aspect in the process of English teaching and learning. The purpose of this study is to understand how pre-service teachers of English as a foreign language in a multilingual Indonesian context develop their identities. Utilizing qualitative case study methodology, the research data were obtained from classroom observations, interviews, focus group discussion and classroom artifacts such as lesson plans, English curriculum, and practicum reports. The findings indicate that teaching practicums help pre-service teachers grow professionally as teachers, yet change their perception about the ideal portraits of English teachers. This suggests that their teacher identity changes as they learn to teach in different settings.
