Dialogue Pedagogical Strategies Perceived to Enhance Online Interaction: Instructors' Perspective

Abstract

This study explored dialogue pedagogical strategies employed by instructors of online courses to enhance the quality of course delivery and students’ learning in the online environment in higher education. It also investigated challenges faced by instructors of online courses in their effort to maximize students’ learning the online environment. Ten instructors of online courses at a southeast university in the United States participated in the study. Results indicate that instructors’ presence, learning communities, instructional differentiation, and strict deadlines for promoting the quality of online dialogue learning emerged from the data. The participants also identified three issues including student issues, instructor issues, and technological issues to be destructive factors that obstruct the quality of students’ learning in the online environment.
