Different Ships, Same Boat: Examining Racial Battle Fatigue Among Women Academics of Color and Allies

Abstract

We focus on intersections of difference related to race, gender, and sexuality which manifest in Racial Battle Fatigue for Women of Color and allies in higher education. We explore our resistance to post-racialism and post-genderism undergirding our personal and professional orientations. We focus on the inter-institutional problematics that work against graduate students of color, that fight against the tenure and promotion of females of color, and punish allies who dare to fight in solidarity against gender and racial oppression. Not only do inequities exist which center along the intersections of class, race, gender, and sexuality, but the efforts of equity and social justice scholars have become characterized by through experiencing microagressions, fatigue, illness, and fatigue that further complicates the work.
