Exploring the Voices From Students With Disabilities: Application of Psychodrama in Education

Mon, May 1, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 3

Abstract

This is an interdisciplinary research study about using psychodrama in educational research. The theoretical framework is built upon Moreno’s psychodrama. Techniques such as mirroring, scene setting, doubling, and soliloquy were employed by an invited psychodramatist in the study. Four participants with intersectional identities were invited to join the study. Vignettes and artifacts were collected. Interviews were conducted to qualitatively evaluate the effect of psychodrama. The findings show that psychodrama was an effective emancipation tool for students with disabilities to experience healing. Further studies about using psychodrama in education should be explored. The findings show that the participants need to have a voice and they want other people’s understanding of what they went through as persons with disabilities.
