This paper presents some of the educational contributions provided by the non-academic women who participated in the libertarian movement called Free Women during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and beyond. The data provided arise from a longitudinal research initiated in 2006 in which we have recovered the voice of five exiled women who participated in this movement. Also, we have conducted a review of historical and scientific literature. The data obtained point to the impact provided by Free Women in relation to overcoming the educational exclusion both in their historical context and the current educational landscape. Thus, we provide relevant insights on the role played by silenced feminist grassroots movements in relation to the expansion of educational opportunities for all.
