Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore and explain a school-wide professional development model for inducting teachers and school leaders who plan to practice and to implement culturally responsive pedagogical practices. This professional development (PD) model was developed and refined by the author over the last two decades. It focuses on a set of specific instructional categories and activities that are designed to increase student engagement and achievement by valuing their cultural and linguistic identities as resources that can be validated and affirmed at school.
