Abstract

This research explores Black male educational resilience among college graduates who matriculated from urban public high schools. This study examines how urban African American males overcome challenges through world-life interviews of eight college-educated Black males. Each matriculated from the same urban high school, and earned a college degree. Narrative analysis revealed that educational success was cultivated within ecologies of hope or synergistic forms of community wisdom shared across home, peer, school, church and community networks. These shared spaces and messages were transformative and transferred resilience from home communities to college environments.
