The different ways refugee youth enact their resilience can easily be overlooked by educators especially when students are deemed to have not achieved the positive outcomes as defined by the dominant group. Thus, we problematize how resilience is currently understood. Through multimodal analysis, we offer an alternative way of conceptualizing resilience by exploring the various ways Betty, a Burmese refugee youth enacted her resilience “moment-by-moment” in learning about climate change in an afterschool STEM program. The findings have important insights on how educators conceptualize resilience and have pedagogical implications.
