Abstract

Relatively few studies have investigated whether there is a community college attendance effect for STEM major transfer students. In this study, we utilized propensity score matching and longitudinal data to investigate whether there is such an effect. Preliminary results suggested STEM major community college students who transferred to four-year institutions are about 20% more likely to complete a STEM baccalaureate than junior students at four-year institutions within three years (2003/04-2005/06).Yet such positive attendance effect no long exists when looking at the data between 2003/04 and 2008/09.
