Abstract

This study investigates 28 mathematics teachers’ engagement in community-based professional development to better understand the dynamics of group interactions in PD activities. Building on previous work, this paper characterizes teachers according to the ways in which they express a connection to others in the community and the way in which they engaged with students’ mathematics work. Using these characterizations, this paper presents an emerging typology and discusses different pairings that have potential to support more or less productive collaborative interaction in community-based PD.
