Transactions in Curriculum Design: A Self-Study to Deepen Understandings of Design-Based Research

Mon, May 1, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 3

Abstract

Design-based research (DBR) systematically investigates the specific curricular components that aim to impact preservice teachers’ learning to teach. To have additional perspective into the DBR process, this self-study focuses on teacher educator's experiences and knowledge was reframed in teaching literacy through the constant negotiation with the personal and institutional forces encountered in DBR. By combining a self-study with DBR, the study seeks to offer insights to others working in similar contexts pragmatics of engaging in DBR; and for others coming from different contexts, this self-study could expand (or even challenge) the scope of their experiences in DBR.
