Multicultural Teacher Preparation and Technology: A Review of the Literature 2010–2016

Abstract

This paper will provide a review of the literature of empirical research about the use of technology in multicultural teacher preparation (MTP) conducted between 2010 and 2016. A preliminary synthesis of the literature indicated that most studies addressed: 1) building intercultural competence, especially among language teachers; 2) facilitating international partnerships; and 3) using technology purposefully to develop MTP. Findings also indicated mostly positive outcomes associated with the use of technology to foster MTP; however, it is important for teacher educators to make meaningful and purposeful choices for using technology to foster MTP. We recommend continuous research in this area because technology will continue to shape and mold the 21st century learning landscape.
