The Two-Year Myth: Latina/o Familial Conversations on Access to Four-Year Institutions

Abstract

This study highlights Latina/o familial discourse surrounding college-going, and in particular focuses on the thoughts and perceptions Latina/o students and parents have on the various entryways to four-year institutions. Using qualitative data, this study investigates on the “2-year myth”, and focuses on how students and parents perceive the U.S. higher education system to be structured, their ideas on what attendance to the various institutions signify, and what their perspectives mean in regards to accessing higher education institutions.
