Abstract

This paper is a review of the literature on hip hop education in K-12 schooling contexts. The studies reviewed focus on the study of English literature, language, and urban youth culture through engagement with hip hop culture. This review uses hip hop aesthetics as structural metaphors to explore epistemological claims, pedagogical, and curricular uses in hip hop education in K-12 contexts.
