Ritualistic Policing of Black Girls: Addressing Zero Tolerance Policies and Race-Based Trauma in School

Abstract

The objective of this phenomenological study is to expand current research on school discipline disparities for Black girls by examining through Critical Race Feminism how Zero Tolerance Policies and practices produces race-based trauma for Black female students in K-12 contexts. Findings of this empirical study provides strategies for addressing how schools can address racial trauma while illuminating how surveillance measures impact Black girls' schooling experiences.
