This study focuses on how, and to what extent, educational goals and communicative supports and services are integrated into students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEP). The researchers analyzed the IEP documents of students with intellectual and developmental disability labels, including autism, who receive special education services related to augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). In so doing, we aim to better understand how such support is constructed through IEPs to meet students' school-based communicative needs and how additional support for communication could be embedded into effective IEPs.
