With the increased focus on accountability, measurement of fidelity of implementation (FoI) within educational research has become a requirement for funding by several large funders such as the Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES). The scattered nature of fidelity research has inhibited its growth, constraining cross-study and cross-field comparisons. Measuring FoI is often cited as the greatest barrier to forward progress (Sanetti & Kratochwill, 2008) In this conceptual paper, the author elucidates several measurement issues found within fidelity research in general such as: lack of methodology and semantic consensus, improper dimensionality of constructs and uncontrolled measurement error, in hopes of furthering the conversation on how to bridge the existent measurement gaps.
