Abstract

Both Egypt and Jordan have put great emphasis on the development of their human resources in an effort to propel their countries forward. Understanding the role of education as a tool for improving socio-economic conditions and to stay competitive in the region’s labor force, the educational systems in Egypt and Jordan have seen many reform movements with very ambitious goals. Early efforts focused on providing access to schools and enhancing literacy rates. Since the 1990s, their reform efforts concentrated on providing quality education, improving the curriculum, and teacher training. The authors examine both countries’ reforms in light of the social and political factors that impact their progress.
