As leadership theory evolves to interrogate the persistent inequity in quality and outcome of schools and schooling for students of color, especially Black children, leaders remain constrained by neoliberal articulations of what is possible and what is considered achievement. Black leaders for social justice in schools need a new lexicon, and a new way to deconstruct learning spaces and the institution of schooling in radically different ways, ways that even critical race theory cannot proffer. I argue for the evolution of critical race theory towards a theory of decolonization to address the persistent structural inequality and inequitable outcomes for Black children in U.S. schools.
